Recruitment System in NTPC:
NTPC subscribes to the belief that efficiency, effectiveness and success of the organization depends largely on the skills, abilities and commitment of the employees who constitute the most important asset of the organization. NTPC therefore has a transparent and robust framework of policies which enables the organization to attract the right talent for the jobs and make it available at the right time and in right number with the ultimate objective of ensuring optimum and effective utilization of the human resources in a climate of satisfaction, development and growth.
For recruitment of professional personnel in Company’s executive cadre including executive trainees, selection is made on All-India basis. All such posts to be filled are duly notified through press advertisements, Company’s website, Company Notice Boards, Central Govt. /State Govt./PSUs where suitable candidates with the required expertise are expected to be available, etc. to ensure wide coverage.
The magnitude of Executive Manpower requirements along with the imperatives of highly sophisticated technical and professional know-how, necessitates induction of fresh graduates in different disciplines. To meet this requirement, NTPC has an exclusive Executive Trainee (ET) Recruitment Scheme, under which we hire young and fresh graduates in three areas– Engineering Executive Trainees, Finance Executive Trainees & HR Executive Trainees. Assistant Chemist trainees are also hired in the area of Chemistry under this scheme.
NTPC has been hiring Engineering ETs every year, since its inception. Currently, Engineering ETs are hired through GATE results followed by a combination of aptitude/behavioral tests, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. In other areas, trainees are hired through All-India selection tests followed by Group Discussion and Interview. In addition to these, any other selection test/tool, as deemed fit /appropriate by the management is introduced from time to time.
In each recruitment case, the details about the vacancy position, qualifying requirements, selection process, shortlisting guidelines and other relevant details are approved by the management and are duly mentioned in the detailed advertisements, published on NTPC careers webpage (www.ntpccareers.net)/employment news. In addition to sending the call/offer letters by post/email, the list of shortlisted/selected candidates are uploaded on NTPC careers webpage (www.ntpccareers.net) and SMS alerts are also sent, for ensuring faster communication.
Hiring of fresh engineers/graduates through Campus recruitment drive is also carried out in specific cases as deemed fit by the management.
Upon induction, these newly recruited ETs are mandatorily trained through a one-year specially designed ET training programme (consisting of technical, behavioral, on-job training, etc.), which prepares and enables them to holistically take up their respective roles in the organization.
Keeping in view the need for induction of experienced personnel for new/ diversified business areas such as Hydro, Mining, Non-conventional energy, Other Consultancy Services etc. and also for Functional/ Specialist/ Auxiliary areas, recruitments in NTPC may take place at various levels/grades of the organizational hierarchy. The selection process in case of lateral recruitment comprises of selection test followed by interview or only interview (one/multiple levels), depending upon the number of applications received and the requirement of the post.
In specific cases, where the requirement is urgent or suitable personnel on terms offered by the Company may not be available at the right time from other sources or where the time and cost involved in processing recruitment through open advertisement may not be justified in view of the number or nature of posts to be filled, the vacancy may be filled through deputation from Central/State Governments/ Electricity Boards and Public Sector Organizations, as deemed appropriate by the management.
In order to cater to the need of non-executive manpower on a long term basis, NTPC inducts fresh Diploma holders and ITI holders in various disciplines in the name of Diploma/Supervisory Trainee and Artisan Trainee respectively. The selection method primarily comprises of written tests (online/offline), followed by physical/trade/skill test, which are only qualifying in nature. Before regularization, these trainees are put through a one-year training programme, to make them aware of organization’s culture and prepare them to take up their roles. In addition, certain recruitment drives are also carried out at different non-executive levels from time to time on need basis or on exceptional grounds.
